Exploring the Future of Biometrics: Highlights from the IAPR/IEEE Winter School in Shenzhen

We are pleased to share that our team member, Nicolás Cubero, recently represented our research group at the prestigious IAPR/IEEE Winter School on Biometrics, held in Shenzhen from January 25 to 29. This event serves as a vital platform for PhD students to gain in-depth insights into the cutting-edge intersections of generative AI and multimodal foundation models for biometrics.

Throughout the intensive week, Nicolás attended sessions led by distinguished researchers in the field, including Mark Nixon, Xiaoming Liu, and Vishal M. Patel. The curriculum was designed to cover a wide array of advanced topics, ensuring attendees stayed ahead of the curve. Key areas of study included Generative AI for biometrics, self-supervised learning, foundation models, and multimodal LLMs. Additionally, the sessions explored the latest breakthroughs in specific recognition modalities such as Gait, Iris, Face, and Fingerprint recognition.

Beyond the lectures, the event featured a poster session which provided a fantastic opportunity for interaction. During this session, Nicolás presented his latest research focusing on Gait Recognition using pose-based descriptors and health monitoring based on Gait analysis. This exchange of ideas with other students and experts fostered an environment of inspiring networking, paving the way for future collaborations and innovation within our group.
